The EHS Manager will lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs across Midwest operations in Greenup and Newton, IL. This individual will work cross-functionally at all organizational levels to ensure EHS initiatives are developed collaboratively, deployed effectively, and sustained for long-term success. The role includes direct supervisory responsibility for one team member, encompassing coaching, development, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic roadmap to advance site-level EHS programs, ensuring sustainability and alignment with company goals.

  • Integrate lean manufacturing principles and EHS management systems to design scalable and efficient EHS processes.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on a broad range of EHS and regulatory topics, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and Workers’ Compensation.

  • Collaborate closely with site operations and corporate EHS teams to harmonize practices.

  • Guide and support direct report(s) to drive standardized EHS program deployment while ensuring site-level engagement.

  • Conduct EHS audits and provide clear, actionable recommendations for systemic improvements.

  • Lead root cause investigations and develop effective corrective and preventive action plans.

  • Design and deliver EHS training programs to build awareness and ensure consistent program adoption.

  • Regularly update site leadership on EHS program progress and performance metrics.

  • Oversee and provide technical guidance for a wide array of EHS programs, including but not limited to:

    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

    • Arc Flash Safety

    • Hazard Communication

    • Machine Guarding

    • Fall Protection

    • Powered Industrial Trucks

    • Cranes & Hoists

    • Environmental compliance (waste, stormwater, air emissions, wastewater)

    • PPE Assessments

    • Safety Committee and First Aid Team coordination

    • Ammonia safety programs and response teams

    • New employee safety onboarding

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing setting (preferred).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field (preferred).

  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to build sustainable programs using Plan-Do-Check-Act principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to shift between strategic and tactical focus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, consensus-building, and influence.

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with ambiguity.

  • Experience conducting audits and translating findings into actionable improvements.

  • Capable of simplifying complex ideas into digestible concepts for broader understanding and buy-in.

  • Proven ability to design and lead EHS training programs with clear learning objectives and engaging content.

  • Effective project management and program development abilities.

  • Experience developing and tracking leading and lagging EHS metrics.
