Job Description

We’re  The Rhythm Company , an independent game studio creating next generation rhythm games. We’re looking for a freelance  Character Artist  who will be responsible for producing  medium-detail  character models based on provided concept art. 

Models should clearly communicate form, structure, and key design details, with proper topology for animation. Deliverables will include clean, optimized production-ready models built from baked high-poly geometry, with potential for future work that includes texturing and additional polish.

Flexible hours and steady collaboration as needed. 

The engagement will be structured as a fixed-scope, milestone-based contract.

Scope 

The exact scope of assets will be determined as necessary or upon request. Currently we anticipate work for the following assets:

• 5-8 Character models
• High poly model bake
• Optimized low poly model
• UV unwrapping
• Full PBR texturing
• 1-2 minor revision rounds
• 5-8 Character texturing
• PBR materials which includes
• Stylized paint and material breakup
• Albedo
• Roughness
• Metallic
• Normals
• AO
• Detail map

We will begin by having 1 character modeled as a first step. More work to follow for the right candidate.

Start

We hope to have this position filled by the end of the month with work starting in January.

Deadline

Turnaround times will be agreed upon for each task. Hours are flexible, and synchronous collaboration will rarely be required if at all. Our ideal pace would be 1 to 2 completed character models per month.

Requirements

• Ability to create  medium-level detailed 3D characters  suitable for real-time game use.
• Must own and be proficient in 3D software of your choice
• If texturing, the artist must own Substance Painter and use it to texture assets, delivering the Substance Painter file along with the textures
• Clear communication and ability to follow instructions
• All communication is typically through email or discord
• A freelance & IP assignment contract will be provided and must be signed before work begins

Compensation

Payments will be made via ACH (US only) or wire transfer (International). Rates are based on our current budget, with some flexibility depending on experience and project needs. 

1. Character: $1200 per character model
2. Character textures: $800 per character
