A DAY IN THE LIFE: The Sr. Global Trade Compliance Specialist role is vital to ensure that the requirements (relevant laws and regulations) and business processes associated with the cross-border movements, run efficiently while ensuring that any risks are identified and managed optimally. This position is a hybrid role with onsite presence a minimum of 3 days per week at our corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA, USA.
The Sr. Global Trade Compliance Specialist at Tandem also:
- Serve as a trusted advisor and consultant to the business, providing expert guidance on trade compliance matters, including import/export programs, controls, sanctions, valuation, customs laws, and trade agreements.
- Analyze and determine appropriate classification, valuation, and country of origin determination of product to meet U.S. and global government import and export requirements including the Schedule B, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), etc.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws, trends and regulations and adjust policies/procedures accordingly.
- Develop and evaluate controls, metrics, identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
- Partner with the business on new cross-border projects to ensure new products and trade lanes are set up compliantly with tax, customs, finance and financial systems.
- Evaluate, assess, and resolve trade compliance issues for Global organization and supplier facilities.
- Educate the organization on trade compliance regulations and how to ensure their activities are in line with these regulations.
- Maintain compliance procedural documents and classifications for current and new products and components.
YOU'RE AWESOME AT: - Experience analyzing and interpreting export and import rules and regulations.
- Direct experience working for an importer or exporter and knowledge of import/export processes and related operations.
- Expert competency in the following import/export compliance areas: classification, customs valuation, country of origin and compliance programs.
- Knowledgeable in international shipping and customs procedures.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Tandems policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to local and/or global supply chain including FDA and ISO laws and regulations applicable to the medical device industry.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience providing strong collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders globally.
- Demonstrated strategic thinker that embraces a learning mindset and is comfortable and agile in a dynamic environment.
- Well organized communicator with strong inter-personal skills (thought, written and verbal communication skills) to audiences of all organizational levels.
- Experience leading and participating in process optimization/continuous improvement initiatives.
- Meticulous attention to detail is crucial to ensure accurate classification, documentation, and reporting.
- Must be able to work in a team environment, including immediate supervisor, other team members in the section or group, and vendors/suppliers.
- Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills.
- Remains open to other's ideas; Shares expertise with others; Gives and welcomes feedback; Applies feedback to improve performance; Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic, capable of taking ownership of and driving/managing complex, cross-functional projects and balancing competing priorities.
- Must have experience with IT Systems and tools (MS Office applications - including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Dynamics/365 ERP is a plus.
YOU'LL NEED: - Bachelor's degree in business, international trade, law, supply chain or related field required. Master's degree or relevant certifications preferred.
- 5+ years' experience in import/export regulatory compliance or similar function for a global organization with international trade experience required.
- 5 years within the medical device/life science industry

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The starting base pay range for this position is $87,500 to $109,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate's location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
